Dear Ballet students and parents,
We have an exciting new opportunity! This year we are offering a chance for students to compete a solo and/or in an ensemble at the YAGP (youth American Grand Prix). This competition is one of the leading International ballet competitions. It includes performing before master ballet instructors, who will give you notes on what you are excelling at and what you can improve on, as well as the opportunity to participate in three workshops given by master ballet instructors from around the world.
Participating in the YAGP is a great way to improve not only your technical skills but also your performance and artistic skills. Preparing and competing a solo offers students a unique chance to really progress! Soloists will have the one on one instruction with a teacher (coach) in technique application, artistry and performance, and the chance to have feedback from different ballet masters from around the world, they will be able to watch some of the very best ballet dancers in North America. and will get to participate in the workshops offered. YAGP can not only speed up a dancer’s progress but dancers come away with so much inspiration!
Dancers interested in the ensemble will also grow in technical application and artistry while also learning to work as a group. Ensemble dancers will also receive feedback from international judges and will be able to participate in the master classes.
Below is all the information regarding participation in the YAGP!

All dancers interested will register on dance4him. We will be looking for a small group(s) of dancers that are very close in technical and artistic abilities. If you are not chosen to participate it is simply because we did not have enough dancers to match you. It has no bearing on how good of a dancer you are or what your potential is. It would be our hope that all of you would be able to participate, but it will come down to how many register and dance similarly to you!
Dancers must be at an Intermediate I ballet level.
All registrants will be informed whether we have a group for them or not before the first rehearsal.
Cost:
Entry fee- $45 per dancer
Registration fee- $95 regardless of how many pieces you perform
Rehearsal fees for 15 hours
4 students- $460/person
5 students- $350/person
6 students $280/person
7+ students- $240/person

Schedule:
The following are possible dates when rehearsals will be held for the ensemble
Friday, 10/20 (maybe also 10/21)

There will also be some rehearsals January- March. The rehearsal schedule will solidify once we know who will be participating.
We will be participating in the January 19 in Chicago.
If you are interested in speaking with me more about participation, please email me at hollie.mmdco@yahoo.com once I hear from you, if we feel like we should meet in person we can set a time!
If you want to participate in an ensemble please register on dance4him.org no later than Wednesday, September 20th (or as early as possible:)
We look forward to what this season of ballet will bring!

Soloists
Eligibility:
Junior and Senior division-
- must be at least 12 yrs old
- must be enrolled in 2 technique classes, 1 pointe class and 1 variations class
- must have had at least 2 years on Pointe or permission from Hollie
- Must be at an Intermediate or Advanced level or have permission from Hollie
Costs:
- 10 hours of privates with their YAGP coach (a mmdco teacher) ($27/half hour)
- Costume purchase- Many soloists perform the same variation for 2 or more years in a row, the costume would be able to be used at least twice. (around $250)
- The entry fee and dancer registration fee
- Solos- $105
- Families would be responsible for traveling to the venue, and their own hotel accommodations for a two night stay. The hotel they suggest, is about $180 USD. There are also suites that sleep up to 6, if mothers/daughters wanted to go in on a room together, and although this is expensive, it ends up being cheaper per person. I am also sure there are other hotels, this one is suggested because they offer a YAGP discount and it is the most convenient.
Schedule:
- Students will work out their private solo class times with their coach
- The venue
- March 9-11- Toronto location which is a little over 4hrs away, is also a beautiful venue and is open as of now.
