CHALLENGE CLASSES

We delayed our start of challenge classes because they were becoming very popular and we felt we needed to put together some limitations and guidelines.

I have attached two items.  The first one describes what a challenge class is and gives some guidelines.  It also outlines who is eligible for what classes and what classes students need permission in order to participate.

Here is what you need to know:
  1.  There will be a limit to the amount of students in each class.  Once the limit is reached, you will need to notify the front desk so they can relay the information to new interest.

  2.  As you instruct your classes, the focus remains on your level students- any challenge students that add into the class are there to implement what they are learning in their required classes and to apply your general comments given to the class as a whole.  (this doesn't mean you are strictly prohibited from fixing them, but your main focus is on your level students:)

  3.  If any of your challenge students are not focused and paying attention, or otherwise causing distraction in the class you can let them know they will no longer be able to participate (please run this by me first if you need to do this)

  4. On the list I have attached, please note the classes that require a teachers signature in order to participate.  You will need to be prepared to give a signature to students that request one, and you feel are technically advanced enough that the challenge class will benefit them and not take away from where they are at.  Otherwise you will have to let them know they are not ready (at this point you could offer to give them an eval sheet so they know what they can work on)

5. You also need to make sure the students who join your class are marked in your book and you write challenge next to their name.  To keep track of weather a student has received permission to take your class, simply look at the top of the permission slip where it will say the students current level, and if it is a lower level than the class you are giving, make sure there is a signature from their level teacher on it.

It is important to make sure you let the front desk know when your class is closed, otherwise a student may go to the trouble of coming only to be turned away:(

Please be sure to review your permission slips (students can get from the front desk) and the list of challenge classes, so you are prepared to play your part;)

Let me know if you have any questions!
